LATROBE CITY TRUST GRANT

We are pleased to share that we were successful in gaining a grant from the Latrobe City Trust to have our sporting facilities updated. The children are excited to have 2 new basketball rings and new footy goal posts together with protective padding. These items have replaced the decades old equipment that they had been using. It’s lovely to see so many students playing organized games of basketball and football and having lots of fun. We are sure they will get many years of use from them.

We are very grateful for the generous donation from Latrobe City trust, as we would not have been able to purchase these items without their support.

GRIP Leadership Course

As part of developing our student leadership team and their leadership skills, we took our Grade 5 and 6 JSCs and School Captains to the GRIP LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE  which was held on Wednesday the 14th of Feb  at the ‘Sale Memorial Hall’.

During the day the students learned how to be good leaders by listening to others, how to step up and get involved, step in to make sure things are happening and step out of your comfort zone. The kids got lots out of the day and are looking forward to putting what they learned into practice.

GLaWAC EXCURSION

Last Thursday our grades three to six Koorie students attended a cultural day run by GLaWAC (Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation). They got to learn traditional dances moves from the Deadly Dance group and got to meet with local members of the SES, Ambulance, Police and CFA. They were also lucky enough to interact with some of our local wildlife at the reptile show. The kids are to be commended on their excellent behaviour. It was great to see so many members of our Koorie Community supporting the cultural day.

ATHLETICS DAY

The School Athletic Sports were held a couple of weeks ago at school. All of our students acquitted themselves very well, showing great determination and enthusiasm during the day.

The grades 3-6 students competed in events that are more typically aligned to track and field (eg. sprints, hurdles, shot put, long jump and triple jump).

Our grade Prep – 2 students sampled a number of similar events but were also encouraged to have a go at other novelty events including: the sack race, tennis ball throw, egg and spoon race and bean bag race.

Despite the purpose of this sports day being aimed at encouraging participation, there was plenty of cheering and competitive juices flowing. In a tightly contested affair, the winning house at the end of both days was Macalister (Red House).

INTERSCHOOL ATHLETICS SPORTS

After performing well at the School Athletics Days, 48 students will proudly represent the school at the District Athletics Carnival on Tuesday 28th of March at the Harold Preston Reserve in Traralgon. We wish them well!!

LANDSCAPING

During the school holidays we will have some landscaping done at the front entrance to the school which we believe will transform our school entrance in a positive manner.
