Auslan

The grades prep to six children at Liddiard Road Primary participate in Auslan once a week for 30 minutes. Students learn about deaf culture and basic sign language. This includes introducing themselves and interacting with the Deaf Community.

Some topics covered in Auslan include:

  • Family
  • Classroom themes
  • Students may also cover any special topics such as the Olympics and Deafblind.

Auslan is provided to deaf, hearing impaired and hearing students.  Auslan is embraced by the school community and is the school’s LOTE subject.  As many teachers and students in the school have participated in Auslan classes, communication occurs freely.
